I have been a painter in oils for the past twenty years and am currently living in Blacksburg, Virginia. Virginia is my beloved home state, however due to life-long military connections I have been privelaged to have lived in nine different states across the U.S., as well as Belgium and Germany.
I am also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a Chinese Linguist for four years. My time in service was short, but there is enough competitiveness, ambition and sense of adventure in me that I did earn my sergeant's stripes and jump wings before my enlistment ended.
After my time in service, I used my G.I. Bill to continue to follow my dreams and earn my Bachelor's degree in painting from North Georgia College and State University in 2001, in addition to earning an Associate's degree in Chinese from Monterey Peninsula College.
My work is often heavily influenced by the exposure to Chinese culture during my time as a linguist. As a result there's a contemporary east meets west, post-expressionistic flavor to my work.
The subject of my current work is orchids, and the style floats between realism and expressionism. Color has long been my passion, but over the past few years my focus has turned to line and texture. Nature, family and faith are my continual and sustaining inspirations.
